TAKE A MINUTE

Happy International Women’s Day!

The ladies in my life are the hardest working women in showbiz - mothers, professionals, daughters, partners, friends, and more.

Both in and out of all of our roles, many of us veer into the realm of hyperproductivity. Myself definitely included - my idea of relaxing is certainly not chilling on a park bench and staring into space, but instead learning a new language or meeting with a potential client or lifting heavy at the gym or generally just getting things done.

Speaking of the gym, Spotify suggested a new song for me when I was there the other day: “Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself” by Jess Glynn. It’s a bop:

I learned to wave goodbye

How not to see my life

Through someone else's eyes

It's not an easy road

But now I'm not alone

So I, I won't be so hard on myself no more

Don't be so hard on yourself, no

Learn to forgive, learn to let go

Everyone trips, everyone falls

So don't be so hard on yourself, no

In addition to always being productive, I’m also always pretty hard on myself (as are so many of the women in my life). Those things are probably related…which might also be related to the idea that women carry a disproportionate amount of so many of life’s burdens. I can see the Venn diagram in my head: carrying the weight of the world → hard on ourselves → always accomplishing something or another.

Today is a nice little reminder that things don’t have to be so hard - and you don’t have to be so hard on yourself - when you’re surrounded by a supportive community of women. We’re stronger together…but can be vulnerable together too.

Then my wish for all of us on this IWD? Let’s take a beat, take a break and give ourselves some grace…and maybe even some time on the couch doing nothing (except maybe watching Love Is Blind?!).
