How to Stop Hustling and Start Creating

On a whirlwind 24-hour trip to NYC last week, I attended the latest Creators Economy NYC  event after an amazing meeting with Helaine Knapp (on the one-year anniversary of the publication of Making Waves!) about some big things we have in development.

I left feeling soooo inspired, with renewed energy for creating cool shit.

Stirring the proverbial cauldron of creation produces powerful potions to put out there into the world, which can change it for the better! (Clearly the good witch in me is coming out 😉).

That’s because creativity is a life force that brings vitality. It’s about growing something, not hustling/climbing/striving/forcing.

And I’m not even talking about a company or business or product or anything else in the daily grind - I’m talking about any little thing that lights you up; creating something, anything, that you’re excited about or invested in or puts you into a flow state.

Be open to new forms of creation, too, because maybe something you never remotely imagined would excite you ends up being the spark that completely changes your day…or the trajectory of your life.

Case in point:

“You’ll love gardening,” my fiance Mike told me confidently this past spring. I internally rolled my eyes, thinking, No way, buddy.

Fast forward to this morning, when I spent thirty minutes in the yard watering the vegetables we planted, and chatting with them lovingly like they were my friends. Nurturing them and watching them grow - our very own little creations - feels so empowering!

Easy ways to get creative:

  • Buy a new journal or sketchbook, crack it open over morning coffee and let it flow, whatever “it” is

  • Learn to cook an amazing dish (not my journey but you do you!)

  • Take a one-off class: painting, pottery, songwriting, coding

  • Dance around with a matcha tea in hand. Side note: if you can learn to actually create a good match tea, please let me know!

  • Buy a bunch of magazines and make a vision board or inspo wall with a corkboard (thanks to my friend Alison Love for this one!)

  • Go to Michael’s and browse the zillion random craft ideas - pick one, bring it home, and have fun

  • Become an amateur birdwatcher (I can’t believe I am saying this, but I am going to try this one myself! There are so many cool birds out there!)

  • Creativity loves community, so why not start a micro creative collective?:

  • Gather 3 - 5 friends (or internet folks!) and create a low-pressure creative pod. Set a fun prompt each week, like “make something inspired by the color yellow” or “write a haiku about your week,” and share your creations in a group chat or short Zoom hang. No critique, no pressure, just mutual inspiration and accountability.

Feeling the creative spark, and ready to channel it into real transformation?

I partner with visionary women ready to build, expand, or reinvent from a place of deep clarity and connection. If you're ready to create what's next with intention and impact, let’s chat.
