The Sign to Step Out of Your Comfort Zone

I’ve said a vehement NO to creating a podcast forever.

My excuse has been that I prefer write rather than chatting and talking through ideas.

Then there’s being on camera - I’ve done it quite a bit but it has never ceased to give me anxiety before, during, and after the experience.

The common denominator in both is me being uncharacteristically self-conscious and therefore stubbornly sticking to my comfort zone, avoiding both of the above as much as possible.

But….

Helaine Knapp and I collaborated on her book Making Waves and she always credits me with not taking no for an answer and “forcing” her to open up and write and publish the book.

She laughingly says I “yanked” her out of her comfort zone, and a couple of weeks ago, she returned the favor: we shot what will be four episodes of our upcoming  video podcast.

And guess what? I absolutely freaking loved every second of it.

Our chemistry (and ease) together is super strong so that helps, plus we have the most amazing team at Podhouse Productions who made everything fun and stressless but also polished and professional.

I found myself in that vaunted flow state -  and in tears at times, but the happy kind, hysterically laughing with Helaine over one thing or another (just wait for the blooper reels coming with every episode!).

In real time, we created something bigger than we even initially imagined - a narrow concept broadened into our next big thing together.

All because I finally said “yes” to something that made me step outside my comfort zone.

So if you’ve been waiting for your sign to try something new, start your next big (or small) thing, have that uncomfortable conversation, or just take a step you’ve been avoiding, this is it.
